I got this set for my daughter in Fifth Grade, and while the thesaurus in the set is exactly at the level I expected, the dictionary suffers for being so compact. For instance, my daughter was trying to use the dictionary to look up the word "series" in the context of electrical circuits - but the actual definition for the word was spartan at best, and the context of electrical circuits was completely omitted.I'd only recommend this set if you have a much larger and more comprehensive dictionary at the home, and only intend to use the dictionary in alternate locations where the portability factor is important.
Great students dictionary and thesaurus for my 9 year old. Price was much better than local store. Easy to use, nice size font for kids. If you have vision trouble you may want to find a larger font. Paperback books worth the money.
Needed a dictionary for a precocious pre-schooler, but Collegiate edition is unabridged. This contains no age-inappropriate entries, and is just what's wanted. More than adequate with over 37,000 entries, and the thesaurus is a welcome added bonus. Only reservation is that the covers are VERY flimsy, giving rise to concern over longevity.
Bought these for my 10 year old for when he starts 5th grade. These are great to have around and not rely so much on the computer for help.
My students use them all the time, they rarely ask for help.
