It has been a while since I read a book in one sitting, but the subject matter in this book is too important to ignore, and there simply haven't been other works on the same subject. The contemporary Church is morphing, dividing, to the point that is becoming two different things. We are living in very troubled times, and individuals will have no choice but to choose one side or the other. Will one become a universalist, regarding value in any path to God, or will the Christian choose to stand up to the conservative, Biblical teaching that Christ is not at all, a way to God, but THE Way, the ONLY way? Like it or not, we will be forced to choose one way or the other, and better to consider the debate now while one can do so without threat.I don't particularly agree with absolutely everything in this book (though I do agree with most of it), but the material is too important, too provocative, not to debate and consider with a focused mindset. At this point, there is no better work presenting this dichotomy, that the Christian Church will divide and become its own worst enemy.
This book hits the nail on the head. Being an active Christian, I was invited to attend classes that several of the Baptist Pastors in my county are attending at the local Association building, on theology. My experience with that was not good, and reflected some of the issues that the author of this book brings to light. Most can already see that being a Christian is already rapidly loosing popularity and that there has became a large divide between different denominations of Christians themselves (even so, large divides between churches of the same denominations). I personally am an old time Christian and stand firm on the KJV Bible, not to insult, judge or belittle others Bible of choice but only to give perspective on my recommendation of this book. If you are of like mind and feel that there is too much change to the word to make the word bend to the man rather than the Christian changing his or her ways to be a true Christian, you will most likely enjoy this one.
Interesting and alarming read, but given what the Scriptures say about neighbors and friends and family coming against one another, it should not be a surprise to anyone. Divisions are running rampant among and in the churches these days. Democrats vs. Republicans; Sabbath keepers vs. Sunday worshippers; orthodox vs. progressive, etc. Jesus was not popular and when He said sell everything, the multitude walked away from Him. What are YOU going to do?
I enjoyed the book because it takes a fairly neutral stance in regards to traditional conservative Christian thinking. Most evangelicals fall into the camp of the televangelists such as Pat Robertson, Billy Graham, and Charles Stanley. I believe these are men of God, and yet I believe their worldview is seriously lacking in objectivity in regards to what's really going on behind the scenes and right under our noses. For example, for the true disciple of Christ, patriotism means nothing more than being the best citizen of the kingdom of God that one can be. In my view that means flag-waving is at best, futile, and at worst, jingoistic. The worldly government of very nation on earth is corrupted beyond redemption. To claim, or believe that the United States is the greatest nation on earth is a seriously naïve and narrowminded outlook. This book underscores the fact that nothing on earth is as it seems to the outward five senses. We must live our lives with careful circumspection because our adversary the devil prowls about seeking whom he may devour hour. It is possible that this nation is the most lukewarm nation in the history of the world. We are right for the pickings if the antichrist should appear in this generation. The vast majority he will be caught up in his deception and completely fooled.I recommend this book for anyone who is seeking a clear understanding of the true nature of reality. I do not recommend this book to those who are satisfied with the status quo in their evangelical mainstream church.
The authors of this book are convinced there is a great apostasy and a falling away on these last days. The church is becoming more and more divided into the conservative (believe the bible) and the liberal (pick and choose). This divide will grow greater as the days grow closer to the Lord's return and we will see Christians fighting Christians as the liberal become more and more offended.
"Blood on the Altar" is a very good book with 11 chapters by as many different authors presenting their view on "the upcoming war between Christian vs. Christian. In many ways is is very discouraging to see how Christianity is tearing itself apart from within, yet this was prophesied as happening in the Bible. This book added very much to my understanding of the last days and how better to prepare for it.
Very informative and insightful. I particularly liked the section showing the clear analogy and similarity of the coming Antichrist to Hitler. We forget that Hitler called himself a Christian and initially had great support from the Protestant Churches and the Vatican. We need to remember history or we are doomed to repeat it. The only criticism I have, is that the author thinks that America still has one more chance for greatness. I humbly disagree. I think that while we will have one more chance for an incredible Great Awakening, sadly it will entail great pain and judgment to get us there.
Fantastic book! Everyone should read this....especially the "True Christians" and those who say they are Christians. This book describes what is going to happen in the end days between these two groups of people. Thanks Mr. Horn for a great book.
