I bought this as soon as I saw it. I love different versions of the 'classic' fairy tales and this one was another beautiful tale!The pictures are beautiful, and the story well written. I loved it and anyone who loves fairy tales is sure to adore it as well. My niece loves fairy tales and I can't wait to read it to her. I read her all sorts of stories when she comes to visit and she has enjoyed every single one. even the boys do!This would make a great gift for kids, as an introduction to multi-cultural fairy tales, and a great book for teachers to read to their students!

I purchased this for a class assignment as a comparative story to the US Cinderella story. It was different but good.
My Korean-born older elementary age son loved this awesome comic book! It presents the classic Cinderella tale in a kid/boy friendly way!
An old Korean farmer and his lovely young wife were very happy together, but unfortunately they were childless. They waited for many years until a very magical thing occurred . . . "finally the woman learned that she was with child." She gave birth to a little girl and the parents were ecstatic. To mark the glorious event the baby's father planted a pear tree and when he was admiring it, he decided the child would be named "Pear Blossom." She was a beautiful, carefree and happy child until the age of thirteen when her mother suddenly passed away. The old man needed someone to help him care for Pear Blossom and he went to a matchmaker.He not only got a wife, but also a sister for Pear Blossom. Omoni and Violet soon moved in and soon their evil ways began to surface. Omoni was the epitome of the wicked stepmother and Violet, of course, was her mother's daughter. Omoni used to lie awake nights just trying to think of ways to make her stepdaughter's life utterly miserable. She was constantly trying to tear her down. Violet enjoyed calling her names and laughed when Pear Blossom got "down on her hands and knees like a little pig." And so, Pigling became her new name. Her father was too weak to help prevent or even see the cruelty. What on earth would save Pear Blossom from this life of drudgery and misery?I loved this version of the Cinderella fairy tale. The tale, told in graphic novel style, was mesmerizing to me primarily because of the gorgeous art work. The flow of the story was very easy and the emotions of the characters could be easily ascertained on their faces making this a big help to the reluctant reader. Graphic novels such as this one are generally reserved for the middle school student, but the topic is definitely one for the younger child. The nine to twelve-year-old won't grab for this one, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to pick up a copy to read with a younger child. This is one of several titles in the "Graphic Myths and Legends" series. In the back of the book is a glossary and pronunciation guide, an index and additional recommended book and website resources.
A combination of Korean Fairy Tale and the classic Cinderella Tale, this graphic tale is superb. An easy written style so younger children approx age of 6-10 will be able to read and learn from the tale. Includes highlighted vocabulary words and even common Korean language terms. Will definitely use this as a teaching tool.
Nicely retold story and beautiful illustration. You can enjoy a different culture. Some pictures are not really depicting Korean culture but reasonably representing.
