I have a lot of watercolor books, probably more than any one person ought to hoard. But this is the best one I've ever seen. Extremely well organized and loaded with colored illustrations, Claudia Nice presents her material in a logical and easy to follow manner. She writes so clearly that the book isn't burdened with unnecessary text, burt rather succinct lines of how she achieved her results. Frequently she includes her palettes. I'm using this as a textbook, copying her demonstrations (today I did animal eyes, for instance). I was taking a local art class and left in the middle of it yesterday when the teacher - for the 2nd week in a row - threw a picture up on the screen and told us to paint it while he devoted the rest of our class time to painting his own art. I was frustrated as I didn't have a clue how to paint what was on the screen. I came home saddened and very discouraged, not wanting to sketch or paint. Today, I pulled out THIS book and I'm back on track. I spent 1 1/2 hours studying/painting 1 page of this book and learned more than I did with 25 hours of instruction for the last 2 art classes I've taken. I have 2 of her other books also and can't wait to jump into them too. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
arrived quickly from seller.This is a very interesting book. I have another book by Claudia Nice, and it was more for beginners with details onmany watercolor and ink techniques. This book is for the more advanced artist, I think. So I do like it. But if you are abeginner, I'd suggest you check out her earlier books on ink and drawing in general. I am very impressed with heroutput and the many examples that she includes in her books. She is definitely someone who is highly dedicated andwilling to share her knowledge with other artists. No regrets at all buying this book
i did like this book, or the other one form the same author "Painting with Watercolor, Pen & Ink", each taken separately. However I feel a little cheated as I bought both books, and it turns out 8 out of the 11 chapters that this book contains are the same. what i mean by the same: word per word. so in a sense I paid almost $23 for three chapters...
I took the advice of one reviewer who said 2nd book is a duplicate, and just bought this one. I am a beginner in watercolor painting and this book has a lot of details and explanations.Even though I am also taking watercolor classes, I use this book as instruction to learn and master each technique following step by step directions.
I am a professional artist, living and working out of Oklahoma. I bought this book as a reference book to help my technique improve. I usually work with oil and acrylic, but lately have been experimenting with ink wash and watercolor. This book had everything I needed. It does *NOT* teach you how to use watercolor. This book is for people who already have some experience with painting and using the medium. Some of the techniques are hard to master, but worth trying.I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is working with ink and watercolor as a professional or a hobbyist. Well worth the money spent.
I wanted to explore the pen/ink & watercolor technique and was looking for a book that would give me solid guidance on how to work with this medium. When I received this book, it exceeded my expectations. I have a LOT of art books and I've had more than my share of disappointments from books that did not deliver. Claudia Nice provides us with plenty of visual examples of the techniques she uses. She covers a variety of subject matter from still life to landscape. My two year old grandson and I spent an hour flipping through the pages together and he was as entertained as I! I will definitely be investing in her other books that seem to provide more in-depth detail on certain subjects.
This is a fabulous book for beginners to follow along, learn and practice new techniques. All elements of beginning drawing are explained. Many books leave out important details that newbies like me need to know. My introductory drawing teacher thinks its wonderful and recommends it to her students. It's a great book and value.
Excellent artist book. Just what I was looking for, especially the information on texturing. Also a big plus for P-Town Book Sales. Book was packaged adequately and just as described. Would purchase from them again.
